Trick-or-Treat Hours in the Southwest Suburbs (and Will County Trick-or-Treat Times by Town)
Halloween lands on a Saturday this year. No rushing home from work, no homework fight, and a whole afternoon to get the costumes right. Your kids are going to love it.
Here's what you may not realize. A Saturday changes the hours, and not every town moves the same way.
In Mokena, trick-or-treating ends at 5. Right next door in New Lenox, you've still got two more hours. In Orland Park, it runs until 8. Pick the wrong town at the wrong time and you're knocking on dark porches.
What are trick-or-treat hours in the southwest suburbs this year?
Trick-or-treating is Saturday, October 31, 2026, and the most common window is 4 to 7 p.m. Seven of the 20 towns below run 4 to 7, and 11 of them wrap up at 7. The spread is wide, though, so check your town before you plan the night.
- Earliest start: Mokena, at 1 p.m.
- Latest finish: 8 p.m., in Orland Park, Manhattan and Manteno.
- No set hours: Palos Park.
Trick-or-treat hours by town
"Expected" means the town hadn't set its hours yet, so you're seeing what it's used in past years.

| Channahon | 4 to 7 p.m. (expected) |
| Frankfort | 3 to 7 p.m. |
| Homer Glen | 2 to 7:30 p.m. |
| Joliet | 4 to 7 p.m. |
| Lemont | 3 to 6:30 p.m. |
| Lockport | 4 to 7 p.m. |
| Manhattan | 4 to 8 p.m. |
| Manteno | 5 to 8 p.m. (expected) |
| Minooka | 4 to 7 p.m. |
| Mokena | 1 to 5 p.m. |
| Monee | 4 to 7 p.m. |
| New Lenox | 3 to 7 p.m. |
| Orland Park | 2 to 8 p.m. |
| Palos Heights | 2 to 7 p.m. |
| Palos Hills | 3 to 7:30 p.m. |
| Palos Park | No set hours |
| Peotone | 4 to 7 p.m. |
| Shorewood | 4 to 7 p.m. |
| Tinley Park | 2 to 6 p.m. |
Why are Saturday trick-or-treat hours different?
A few towns set different hours for weekends, and you'll see it play out this year.
- Mokena runs 1 to 5 on weekends and 3 to 7 on weekdays.
- Tinley Park runs 2 to 6 on weekends and 3:30 to 7 on weekdays.
- New Lenox starts at 3 on weekends and 4:30 on weekdays.
- Orland Park goes the other way. It runs until 8 on Fridays and Saturdays, and until 7 the rest of the week.
Other towns just picked different hours this year, like Beecher, which moved its start up an hour, from 4 to 3. Palos Heights went from 5 to 8 last year to 2 to 7, so your usual dinner-then-candy plan won't work there.
So last year's hours won't help you much this time, and the list is a safer bet than your memory before you make plans with the neighbors.
What's worth knowing about your town's hours?
Beecher. Its 3 to 7 is an hour earlier than the last three years, and Beecher went earlier the last two times Halloween fell on a weekend, too. So if you're settled on Beecher, IL, don't plan off last year's hours.
Channahon and Manteno. Neither had set its hours yet. Channahon's run 4 to 7 every year since at least 2022, and Manteno's expected to keep last year's 5 to 8, so watch for the official posts.
Homer Glen. It's 2 to 7:30, the same as last year. You may still find an older village page that says 3 to 7, but go with 2 to 7:30.
Joliet. Joliet's used 4 to 7 every year since 2021, and it's the same on every side of the city.
Palos Park. The village doesn't set trick-or-treat hours at all, so the porch light is your only guide here. If you like the idea of your block setting its own hours, that's one more reason to look at moving to Palos Park, IL.
Peotone. Peotone's kept 4 to 7 every year since 2023, and a Saturday Halloween didn't move it. That kind of consistency is easy to plan around after weighing a move to Peotone, IL.
Shorewood. The hours were just set, so don't panic if you can't find them online yet. Shorewood posts late, and last year's notice didn't go up until October 29, which is worth knowing your first Halloween after shopping for a house in Shorewood, IL.
How do you know which houses are handing out candy?
Look for the porch light first. Joliet asks residents to leave a porch or outside light on if they're handing out candy. Shorewood and Manteno asked for the same thing last year, and Lemont's asking again this year.
If you're not handing out candy, turn your light off. Mokena even offers a printable "No Tricks or Treats" sign you can put on your door.
Trick-or-treat FAQ
What time does trick-or-treating start in the southwest suburbs? Most towns start at 3 or 4 p.m., but you can head out in Mokena as early as 1. Homer Glen, Orland Park, Palos Heights and Tinley Park start at 2.
Can you trick-or-treat on a different day? Not officially, since every town on this list that sets hours set them for Saturday, October 31, so that's the day you've got. Orland Park's and Mokena's codes only allow trick-or-treating on October 31.
Is there an age limit for trick-or-treating? We didn't find an official age limit or a Halloween curfew in any of the 20 towns. Manhattan's notice last year welcomed trick-or-treaters of all ages.
What if you live in an unincorporated area? The Will County Sheriff doesn't publish trick-or-treat hours, so if you're unincorporated, go with the hours of the town around you.
Before you head out
Still need pumpkins? Grab them at one of the pumpkin patches near the southwest suburbs before the 31st. Got older kids who've outgrown the candy run? Try one of the haunted houses in the southwest suburbs instead.
Channahon and Manteno hadn't set their hours yet, so they're marked expected. If your town updates, this page will too.
