Where to Order Thanksgiving Pies in the Southwest Suburbs in 2026 (and How Far Ahead Should You Order a Thanksgiving Pie?)
You get the pie you actually wanted on the table, bourbon pecan instead of whatever's left on the shelf. You get a Wednesday pickup instead of a grocery line on Thursday morning. And you get a local bakery's name on the box, not a chain's.
Here's the part that sneaks up on people. Bakeries don't all work on the same clock, and none of them is waiting for you to decide.
Fleckenstein's stops taking Thanksgiving orders on Thursday, November 19, a full week before the holiday. Decide on the Monday of Thanksgiving week, and you've missed it by four days.
Where can you order Thanksgiving pies in the southwest suburbs?
Four local bakeries in the southwest suburbs take pie orders: Orland Park Bakery in Orland Park, Fleckenstein's in Mokena and New Lenox, Twisted Cupcake in Manteno, and Milano Bakery in Joliet. As of October 29, 2026, only Fleckenstein's has posted its 2026 deadline: November 19. For the other three, you know who takes orders and how, and the cutoff is a phone call. Make it early.
When should you order your Thanksgiving pie?
Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 26, 2026. That puts pie pickup on Wednesday, November 25, at nearly every bakery out here.
Now, here's why ordering ahead matters. You're not just buying a pie, you're buying the flavor you picked and a pickup time that's already yours. Wait too long, and the choice gets made for you, usually in a grocery store aisle.
Look at the pattern, too. Last year Twisted Cupcake stopped at the Friday before Thanksgiving, and in 2024 Milano stopped at the Saturday before. That's about a week out, same as Fleckenstein's this year.
Call in the first half of November. If a bakery hasn't set its cutoff yet, they'll tell you when it's coming.
Who takes Thanksgiving pie orders, and how do you order?
Orland Park Bakery (Orland Park)
Its online store is live, and it has a Thanksgiving section for the bakery at 14850 S LaGrange Rd in Orland Park. Its own site lists pumpkin, Dutch apple, apple, cherry, Dutch cherry, pecan, Kentucky bourbon pecan, blueberry, peach and mincemeat. That's the deepest posted lineup on this list.
You can order online or call (708) 349-8516, but it's closed Mondays, so the Monday of Thanksgiving week isn't a day you can call. When I called on October 29, the bakery said it'll take Thanksgiving orders again and expects its cutoff to land about where last year's did, but it hadn't set the date yet. Call in early November to get the date and the Wednesday pickup hours.
If you're moving to Orland Park, IL, a bakery that puts its whole pie list online is one less thing to figure out your first November.
One name trap: "Orland Park Bakery and Cafe" at 18301 S LaGrange Rd is in Tinley Park, and it's a different business. Check the address before you order.
Fleckenstein's (Mokena and New Lenox)
Fleckenstein's has two locations, one in Mokena and one in New Lenox, and it takes orders online any time. Every order needs at least 72 hours' notice. That's the rule all year, but Thanksgiving has its own cutoff, and it's earlier.
Its Thanksgiving order deadline this year is Thursday, November 19, per its own social media post. Order online, or call and they'll tell you which pies are on the holiday list.
If you're settling in Mokena, that's a bakery that works on your schedule instead of its phone hours, which matters if you work a 24-hour shift.
Twisted Cupcake (Manteno)
Twisted Cupcake took Thanksgiving pie and cookie orders last year, by phone or in the store, and its own Facebook page said it'd take them through the Friday before Thanksgiving. This year's post isn't up yet, so watch the page or call (779) 529-5041 and ask.
Full disclosure: my wife and I got our wedding cake at Twisted Cupcake, and we liked it. We make our own pies at home, so that's a vouch for the bakery, not the pies.
If you're taking a hard look at Manteno, IL, it's the kind of local bakery that's worth knowing before you need one.
Milano Bakery (Joliet)
Milano Bakery's retail shop is at 433 S Chicago St in Joliet, and its own site lists pies year round. In 2024, its Facebook page said Thanksgiving orders would cut off on the Saturday before the holiday, and last year it was still taking them by phone about ten days out. When I called on October 29, it hadn't started holiday orders and said it'll sort them out closer to Thanksgiving, so call (815) 727-2253 in mid-November.
If you're weighing Joliet, it's worth knowing the city has a bakery that keeps pies on the menu all year.
Quick picks
Want the biggest posted lineup? That's Orland Park Bakery. Want to order at midnight without calling anyone? Fleckenstein's, by November 19. Down on the south end? Twisted Cupcake. Joliet side? Milano, after a phone call.
What should you ask when you call?
Keep it short, because they're busy the week before Thanksgiving and so are you.
- What's the last day to order for Thanksgiving?
- What are the Wednesday pickup hours?
- Which pies are on the holiday list this year?
- Do you need a deposit to hold the order?
Write the answers down. Put the pickup time in your phone with the address, not just the name, because a name alone is how the Tinley Park mix-up happens.
If your Thursday starts at one of the turkey trots in the southwest suburbs, a Wednesday pickup keeps the whole morning free.
Baking your own is the other route, and if you went apple picking near the southwest suburbs this fall, part of the work's already done.
The Bottom Line
You don't need every bakery's deadline posted to get this right. You need to know who takes orders and how, and then you need to call early. Orland Park Bakery has the biggest posted lineup, and Fleckenstein's closes holiday orders on November 19. Twisted Cupcake took orders through the Friday before Thanksgiving last year, and Milano keeps pies on the menu all year. Pick one, call in early November, and Wednesday's pickup is the only thing left.
Every roster town got checked for this one. Orland Hills, Palos Park, Palos Hills, Palos Heights, Lemont, Homer Glen, Tinley Park, Lockport, Shorewood, Frankfort, Manhattan, Peotone, Monee, Channahon, Minooka and Beecher didn't turn up a local bakery taking Thanksgiving pie orders that could be verified. That's a finding about pies, not about those towns, and chains and grocery bakeries were left off on purpose.
Frequently Asked Questions
When is Thanksgiving in 2026?
Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 26, 2026. Pie pickup usually lands the day before, on Wednesday, November 25, so confirm your bakery's pickup hours for that day.
How far ahead should you order a Thanksgiving pie?
Earlier than you think. Call in the first half of November and ask for the cutoff, since only Fleckenstein's had posted one as of October 29, 2026. Its Thanksgiving orders close Thursday, November 19.
Can you order Thanksgiving pies online in the southwest suburbs?
Yes, at two of these. Orland Park Bakery has an online store with a Thanksgiving section, and Fleckenstein's takes them online through November 19. Twisted Cupcake took orders by phone or in the store last year.
Is Orland Park Bakery the same as Orland Park Bakery and Cafe?
No. Orland Park Bakery is at 14850 S LaGrange Rd in Orland Park. Orland Park Bakery and Cafe is at 18301 S LaGrange Rd, which is in Tinley Park, and it's a different business.
What pies does Orland Park Bakery make?
Its own site lists pumpkin, Dutch apple, apple, cherry, Dutch cherry, pecan, Kentucky bourbon pecan, blueberry, peach and mincemeat. Call to confirm what's on the Thanksgiving list this year.
Why aren't chain bakeries on this list?
Because you already know where those are. This list is local bakeries only, the ones that are easy to miss until you've lived here a while.
If your town's bakery takes Thanksgiving pie orders and it isn't here, send me the name and it'll get checked for the list.
